The Power of the First Kick
Every great Filipino player—from the grassroots to the national stage—begins with a single, hesitant, hopeful First Kick. That kick is the start of a challenging journey, and our league, the DYL, is here to ensure it’s the right one.
Following the guidance of the PFF, we believe we must adapt the game to fit the child’s needs, rather than forcing young players to adapt to the complexity of the adult game. For young players, adult-style football is too complex, demanding physical and mental abilities they are still developing.
The DYL is the foundation. We introduce competition not to create winners and losers, but to cultivate learners and problem-solvers. This approach ensures every child is provided with a structured environment that encourages Fun and Enjoyment, and gives them a sense of belonging that goes beyond the game.
When a young player competes, they learn foundational life skills. They develop confidence and courage by gaining experience from resolving problems themselves and having the courage to take initiatives. Players also see the payoff of hard work, seeing their effort translate into better play. Most importantly, they develop a strong group identity by socializing with peers to work toward common goals.
Building the Player Through Progressive Learning
What do we do? We create a learning environment where the league rules are tools for player development and complexity increases progressively, just like learning a language or math. Our guidelines are based on the globally recognized, player-centric approach of “Football Sized for Development.”
